About ICA

Committees

Much of the work of the Indiana Construction Association is accomplished through the efforts of its committees. Many more hours are spent outside of scheduled meetings by the Committee Chairpersons and individual committee members who work hard to make our state association a strong partner in their professional development. The Association includes the following standing committees:



  • Diversity

    Chair: David Werking
    F.A. Wilhelm Construction Co., Inc.

    Develops and supports implementation of strategies to help member companies and the association achieve diversity through inclusion in business practices.

  • Education

    Chair: Jason Richmond
    E & B Paving, Inc.

    Addresses the educational needs of ICA member companies. The focus is specifically on professional and supervisory as well as managerial positions.

  • Finance

    Chair: Jim Nordhoff, CPA
    The Hoosier Company, Inc.

    Focuses on and advises the Board of Directors regarding fiscal matters within the boundaries of budgetary, financial and audit functions of the association.

  • Governmental Affairs

    Chair: David Heyde
    E & B Paving, Inc.

    Reviews legislative, regulatory and governmental issues affecting the industry at the local, state and national levels of government. Develops strategies to advocate funding for publicly-funded construction projects, and coordinates with Build Indiana Council and other organizations.

  • ICA/AIA Joint Cooperative

    Chair: Doug Curts
    F.A. Wilhelm Construction Co., Inc.

    Involves members of ICA and the Indiana Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The vision of this committee is to create a teamwork mindset between the architect community and the contractor community. Issues to be addressed include new technology adoption such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), new project delivery methods, specifications, standards and contract documents. Meets quarterly.

  • ICA/IDOA/IFA Joint Cooperative Forum


    Involves members of ICA and representatives of the Indiana Department of Administration (IDOA) and the Indiana Finance Authority (IFA). The committee meets quarterly and discusses issues of mutual interest, including upcoming projects, construction specifications, state implementation of processes and procedures, state construction budget and other issues that affect the construction industry.

  • ICA/Indianapolis DPW Joint Cooperative

    Chair: Chuck Norman
    Eagle Valley Inc.

    Involves members of ICA and representatives of the Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW). Committee meets quarterly and works to address industry-wide issues, and provide the DPW with an opportunity to gather industry recommendations on construction-related issues, including contracts, contract requirements and specification changes or updates.

  • ICA/INDOT Statewide Joint Cooperative

    Chair: Brian Alfredson
    Berns Construction Company, Inc.

    Involves members of ICA and representatives of the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Addresses a wide range of industry issues that affect the contractor/INDOT relationship. This includes field problems, testing/materials, design issues affecting construction, specifications and standards, contract administration, bidding and prequalification.

    In addition to the statewide committee, subcomittees have been established with various INDOT Districts; separate registration is required for the following:

    • NORTHERN REGION:  Representing Fort Wayne & LaPorte Districts, Chair: Gene Yarkie, Rieth-Riley Construction Co., Inc.
    • EASTERN REGION:     Representing Greenfield & Seymour Districts, Chair: Tom Parten, Rieth-Riley Construction Co., Inc.
    • WESTERN REGION:    Representing Vincennes & Crawfordsville Districts, Chair: Scott Stine, Weddle Bros. Highway Group, LLC

  • Leadership Development

    Focuses on maximizing the leadership potential of association professionals identified by employers as future industry leaders. Plans special-topic presentations and relationship-building networking opportunities. Individuals must be appointed to serve by an officer of their company, and separate registration is required for the committees that meet by region as follows:

    • LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT NORTH:  events are held in the Fort Wayne area.
    • LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT CENTRAL:  events are held in the Indianapolis area.

  • Membership Committee

    The charter for this new committee is under development.

  • Safety Committees

    Chair: Jim Delk
    Milestone Contractors, L.P.

    Educate and assist members in providing sound safety practices to provide a safe working environment for all member company employees. With overall planning conducted by the Safety Steering Committee, separate "forums" address the needs of members in the commercial building, highway, heavy and utility markets.
     

    • ICA/INDOT/IOSHA/ISP SAFETY JOINT COOPERATIVE FORUM:  Involves members of ICA and representatives of the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), the Indiana Division of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (IOSHA) and the Indiana State Police (ISP). This forum is highway, heavy and utility-oriented and meets every month. This forum provides an opportunity for members to discuss current, relevant safety initiatives, regulatory updates, and to share common safety concerns and improvements. Members are also afforded the opportunity to interact with INDOT and other government agency officials.
    • SOUTHWEST SAFETY FORUM:  The agenda for monthly meetings in Evansville includes presentation on industry safety topics, regulatory updates, and recent OSHA and IOSHA activity, followed by open discussion of member concerns. Both building and highway, heavy and utility contractor member-oriented. Monthly presentations usually qualify attendees for 1 or 1.5 CEUs.
    • STATEWIDE SAFETY FORUM:  Meetings are held quarterly on the first Friday of the month and include a presentation on relevant and current industry safety topics, regulatory updates and recent OSHA and IOSHA activity, followed by open discussion of member concerns. This forum is oriented towards building industry members, however, all members are welcome.

  • Southwest Construction Roundtable

    Chair: Mike Hemmerling
    Weddle Bros. Building Group, LLC

    Provides an opportunity for industry professionals in Southwest Indiana to develop and enhance their professional expertise, build industry and community relationships, learn more about and increase involvement in ICA, share ideas on industry trends and best practices, and increase awareness of ICA to non-members.
