CROWN POINT -- City streets of Crown Point will be ready for an influx of thousands of young athletes, their coaches, parents and the onslaught of traffic that city officials hope will bring them and their money to a planned $16 million youth sports complex, the mayor says. Uran said the city is seeking and applying for more grants to make other infrastructure improvements leading to the site at the Crown Point Sportsplex, at the city's former water plant on North Street, which is also 109th Avenue. The athletic center will be positioned a mile west of the new 109th Avenue/Interstate 65 interchange, and 1 1/4 miles west of the existing U.S. 231/Interstate 65 interchange. The project includes developing driveway connections through the sportsplex site to South Street (113th) and North Street. Uran declined to speculate on the numbers of people the complex would draw to regional tournaments, but a Girls Softball Fast Pitch tournament kickoff in the city last summer brought 10,000 people downtown.
